De Tour, The Quarry: Late October

This last Wednesday I decided to take a quick solo road trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and do one last camping trip before the weather up there got colder than I was able to handle. I was prepared for it, it was cold, but I was prepared. From midnight to six am the temp dropped almost 10 degrees to get me into the high 20s. I surprisingly did okay with that. Had I had a better pillow I think I would been able to sleep through the night.

The sites were beautiful all the way up and all the way down. As usual, The Quarry did not disappoint. The setting was outstanding; the northern Michigan crisp fall air was in top form, the rain cooperated and only hit during times when I “allowed” for it to do so. I was also able to get a lot accomplished on planning work for the land. I did a bunch of measuring and brainstorming – and was able to get another good section of rocks cleared off the beach.

I made a lot of photos in the 24 hours I was up there. I’ve got a handful of them posted here obviously. I was quite thrilled at the images I was able to get in such a short period of time. A decent series for 24 hours.

I won’t waste space with a lot of text about the images, I’ll let them do the talking for this post. A few things of note first:

  • Best work truck brand ever
  • Those are shoes
  • Traffic in the UP is ‘horrible’
  • 71 MPH is fast enough to get pulled over in a 55 zone but not fast enough to get a ticket if you’re polite
  • That’s the closest cabin to me, two lots over. I like it in a classic way, but I have better, unique plans
  • Say hello to ‘dog rock’ – our guide for the water levels. This summer I could not see the dog at all. Dog rock is telling us the water levels are low
  • They’re flat rocks, acting as heat deflectors. Thanks for teaching me that last spring, Brian.
  • Don’t mind the selfie.
  • Found the lure on the beach, thought it was neat
  • According to the DVI, “Aint no party like a DeTour party ’cause a DeTour party don’t stop.”
  • Also, pricing at the DVI is as follows: $2.75 domestic, $3.0 Canadian. That’s it.
  • I have all those panoramics on high res. They’re outstanding at full scale.
  • Don’t ask questions on how I did the shots from the bridge.

Enjoy the images.
